Melisa and Doug are products well known in children toys. Our five year old grandson opened the box (hardest part of using toy) and had it ready to play with in less than 20 minutes. He loves it and is safe enough to share with his 1yr old brother. It will last long enough to be used by several generations.Beautiful high quality wooden pieces. It would have been nice for the magnets to be slightly more powerful but honesty this set is amazing.I almost bought a random off brand set but decided to go with my trusted Melissa & Doug friends since I knew they had never let me down. Yes, I paid a little bit more but it was definitely worth it! My 3 year old daughter LOVES this and literally plays with it everyday. So many variety of tracks to make and so many pieces! Highly recommend.My 3 yr old twin Grandsons love it. I bought it for their Birthday. The problem like all wooden trains is the supports do not support elevated tracks. Easy fix for us by using double sided foam mounts. Cheap and removes easily. The biggest problem is the magnetic cranes have no magnets. Not sure how to fix that. Unfortunate for the price.I just got this train set. Prior to purchasing I read the dimensions in the description and q&a section to ensure it will fit on my son's play table. Both the description and the q&a section mention dimensions of 28"x17"x6" and the q&a says it is about this assembled. These are the dimensions of the box. It is way bigger assembled. Look at the product picture of the boy standing behind it assembled.Given this, I haven't assembled it yet as I need a new table first. I did open the box and inspect it and it does appear to be quality parts and complete. I'll update rating and dimensions once I get it built, but wanted to warn others not to go off the q&a or description for assembly planning purposes.Great product! A little too old for our two year old as the pieces aren’t sturdy enough for him, but I think it would be great for a three year old boy or older who can build his own path and keep the train on there by himself.The overall quality is excellent. There are a lot of pieces and the kids love that some of the trains and cars have magnetic and removable pieces that can be picked up by the cranes. The wood has a decent weight to it, but not too heavy for the little ones to pick up. Most of the tracks fit together nicely, however, some of the pieces have plastic connectors and some of these connectors were pushed too far into the wood and make either for a tight fit or make it so the tracks don't stay flush or stuck together. Have wanted to pull them out farther, but am unsure if they are screwed or glued in and don't want to break anything. It's not a deal breaker, but just something to be aware of; the majority of the pieces fit just fine. Another minor issue are the blocks used to raise the tracks off the ground. They could have a slightly better way of securing them, as the tracks can fall off them fairly easily. Older kids might not have the trouble, but younger kids might not be able to. We bought this on sale and would suggest because of some of the issues to wait for a sale and not buy at the full price.For the good, this set is sturdy wood, easy to assemble tracks in many configurations, and keeps my 3 year old entertained. I wish I’d paid more attention to the negative reviews though as I have all the same complaints. The magnets are not strong enough which causes the trains to fall apart as he’s playing and the crane magnets don’t actually pick up the cargo or hold it up because the magnets are too weak. This is especially frustrating when trying to build elevated tracks because inevitably the train cars become detached while going up the small incline track to get to the elevated tracks so he spends more time on those ramps which as others have said are very unstable as the little blocks don’t hold it up well. Would be an amazing set if the magnets were stronger and the blocks that held up the elevated track were better designed. My son was so excited when he got this that I can’t bear to send it back, but I’m disappointed and already wondering whether I should buy a different brand set so he gets more enjoyment from it.The track connects very loosely and comes apart too easily. Magnets are very weak. Crane magnets don’t even work. Disappointed with this purchase.
