Description

At fifteen, Vivian Hostadt is the woman of the house. Her mother is dying of brittle diabetes, and everyone is telling her what girls should and should not do. Vivian’s loyalty to her heartbroken family is steadfast, but she is coming of age and must find her own way.In Vivian’s town in the 1930’s, ski jumping is exclusively a boy’s sport. Girls don’t jump. When Jeb Rettlan offers Vivian the chance to jump, she must do so in secret, at night. Jumping upon maple-carved, non-release skis is filled with danger, and doing so by moonlight, with the boy who makes her heart race, is especially risky.

I am from the area where this book was supposed to take place at. I caught a couple mistakes about the facts. My dad used to go sledding in that area and told us about the wooden ski jump. It brought back a lot of memories of stories he used to tell us.I enjoyed the book. I read through it in record time and asked family members questions as to the location of the jump. There is only one lake in that township and why did she call it Turtle Lake instead of its real name, Collins Lake.I still enjoy it and would encourage others to read it.
