Description

Product Description Zydeco, rock, folk, R&B and country into his own unique and very popular brand of music he terms as 'zyde-cajun." His latest album, Little Wooden Box, Wayne retuns to his Louisiana roots and performs many cajun and Louisiana classics. Included in the mix is a version of the unofficial state song "New Orleans ladies" in French! Amazon.com Although Wayne Toups named his band Zydecajun, his sound has as much Southern rock and blue-eyed soul in it as it does traditional Cajun and zydeco. When he sings in English, as he does on "Oh Louisiana" and "Southern Girls," with its Lynyrd Skynyrd-inspired twin lead guitar solos, he reduces the Cajun quotient to a couple of obligatory accordion fills and comes across as just another singer in a Gulf Coast bar band. But when he sings in French on songs such as "Les Filles de la Ville" and "Tous les Temps en Temps," he lets his accordion lead the band and he creates a rollicking sound that is unmistakably Cajun. The music of Wayne Toups and Zydecajun is not for the purist, but at their best they play a uniquely swampy brand of Louisiana party music. --Michael Simmons

A friend sent me a link to this Cajun genre of music and I must say some of it is hauntingly beautiful. Some of the songs on this album are sung in the Cajun language, which is a mixture of Canadian French and English. Wayne Toups is helping to keep that language alive. One song, in particular New Orleans Woman is beautiful. Some of the reviews on Youtube mentioned this song would be a great song for a wedding or anniversary. I love most music and had never heard any of this genre. Now that I have, I will be purchasing more of his music.
